LGD code conflicts[edit]

Hi RamSeraph, I found the LGD code for Bapatla district (Q110876712) conflict with that of Shikarpur Tehsil (Q20594971), as LGD codes are not unique across administrative hierarchy. Can you investigate and address the issue. Arjunaraoc (talk) 00:27, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is a problem with LGD codes currently.. they need to be specialised by district, state, subdistrict, block etc. I started a discussion about that here - https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata_talk:Country_subdivision_task_force/India/Subdistricts
I have started the process for blocks at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Property_proposal/LGD_Block_Code.
Once I understand the process involved I can add seperate codes for the other entities as well.
For now unless the conflicting LGD codes are for the same entity type. Let them be. RamSeraph (talk) 05:46, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the per entity conflicts are being checked at https://ramseraph.github.io/opendata/lgd/wikidata. Ideally these checks should have been in wikidata platform itself, but thats for a future date. RamSeraph (talk) 06:06, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

P31 changes after LGD update[edit]

@RamSeraph, I noticed that you changed P31 of Chirala to census town, which is not correct as of present. Can you revert such changes in particular for Andhra Pradesh. Arjunaraoc (talk) 22:47, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

So, I made the change based on the census code, the census code(591018) for the entry is for the Census Town Chirala(CT), but looking closer at the population data, but it looks like the entry is for the Chirala(M) City( census code: 802987 ). The population of more than 100,000 makes it a city according to the Census BTW. The whole thing is slightly confusing for me at this point in time, I have actually stopped making those changes for now, because I realized the whole thing needs to be modelled better across India. Not sure how to proceed here. RamSeraph (talk) 03:23, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, coincidentally Chirala is my town(it feels weird to call it a city) :) RamSeraph (talk) 03:30, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for reply. I don't give much weightage to census descriptions of a place. I go by the status accorded by government as a local body administration. On wikidata, for Chirala, this corresponds to town as the value for property P31. I will revert if I find similar changes. Arjunaraoc (talk) 04:23, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, can you ping me when respond on pages other than my talk page, so that I get notified. Arjunaraoc (talk) 04:29, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Arjunaraoc Kind of new to the whole wiki thing. Got it.
I would suggest also looking at municipality of India (Q112684326) or municipal council of India (Q6958514) or municipality (Q15284) if you are looking to model it based on local government.
Which ever way it goes. I will track it down later when I come to urban local bodies. Thank you for letting me know. RamSeraph (talk) 04:36, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer generic names such as town, city, village for general usage. For the separate administration wikidata item, we can have municipality to start with. At the census village or gram panchayat level, separate wikidata item for its administration may be too much at this time. Arjunaraoc (talk) 04:44, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

LGD local body code reference[edit]

@RamSeraph, For change, I found you used generic download link of LGDirectory. It is better to create an item for website for LG directory and use "stated in " property value as website. Arjunaraoc (talk) 01:04, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Arjunaraoc I have been considering it doing it. Will do it en masse when I specialise the LGD codes. RamSeraph (talk) 05:31, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
