Discussion[edit]

@Spinster:

Reliable sourcing, absence from en-WP, and whether to revert[edit]

For any editor:

Is warholstars.org a reliable source? It appears to be in the nature of a blog, generally not allowed for English Wikipedia, perhaps unless the blog author is a published author and I don't know that for this case.

The statement being added to Wikidata, at least regarding Valerie Solanas, is not in the English Wikipedia article about Solanas. Is it in some other language Wikipedia about her? If not, does it belong in Wikidata? Is there a similar issue regarding other article subjects (this edit group involve 34 edits)?

If there's no response, these edits should probably be reverted, but I'd prefer a discussion, since I'm less familiar with Wikidata.

Hello @Nick Levinson: I had missed your ping here, but I noticed your edit reverts just now.
Wikidata does not follow the same sourcing policies as Wikipedia. Wikidata is a general knowledge base with a much broader scope than the combined Wikipedias. The Wikidata community, among other activities, aggregates information from other (external) websites and databases, and I did that mini-data-import from that point of view. We do aggregate information from many other databases as well, that may or may not be considered unsuitable from Wikipedia's sourcing POV, such as for instance the Lambiek Comiclopedia. So a statement or an item on Wikidata does not need to be mentioned on any Wikipedia at all. That said, I agree with your assessment that warholstars.org is a very informal source, and while finding their list of Superstars helpful I also had my doubts, specifically about Valerie Solanas. So I'm happy to have these edits reverted if there's a lack of other sources confirming that these people have indeed been called a Warhol Superstar. Cheers! @Spinster:, that's a helpful response (I just saw it, being behind). I think I looked around Wikidata trying to figure out if something like that applied, and I hope someone adds that to a help page or a policy or something. With that understanding, I'm now neutral on whether the edit should have been reverted. Maybe I'm unclear, with that view of data being included even if not qualified for another Wikimedia project, on the role of Wikidata, but maybe someday the help system will be expended. Thanks again. Nick Levinson (talk) 19:58, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
