Motivation[edit]

To be able to link to the official wiki of something - this may have some overlap with wiki farm properties like wiki.gg wiki ID (P11994) or Fandom wiki ID (P4073) but I think it's worth it to display that a wiki is official, and also to be able to link self-hosted wiki instances.

An official wiki seems just as relevant, if not more relevant, than some of the currently existing official website subproperties. Lewis Hulbert (talk) 23:26, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment What do we do when we have an item for the Wiki itself? (e.g. ArchWiki (Q101445877), Team Fortress Wiki (Q116861248), Valve Developer Community (Q123008724)). --Sanqui (talk) 10:21, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
wd-Ryan's solution of using P805 seems ideal, e.g. Arch Linux (Q185576)https://wiki.archlinux.org/statement is subject of (P805)ArchWiki (Q101445877) Lewis Hulbert (talk) 10:28, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense, I guess!  Support --Sanqui (talk) 12:38, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 Question How is this different from user manual URL (P2078)? —Tomodachi94 (he/him · talk) 22:13, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Clarification: I know that wikis are very different from manuals, but they often have some overlap. How does this proposal account for that? —Tomodachi94 (he/him · talk) 22:21, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not really sure how to address this in the proposal, a wiki about software or games could be regarded as a user manual, though many game wikis focus more on the lore and such rather than being a "how to play" guide. It wouldn't make sense to call a wiki about something that isn't actually operated by a user a manual though, an example being a television series. It does already appear like there's some overlap though - Arch Linux (Q185576), FreeBSD (Q34236) and Damn Small Linux (Q192546) already use user manual URL (P2078) for links to the wiki. If the subject item is the wiki itself, using P856 would be ideal. Most wiki items already have statements along the lines of ArchWiki (Q101445877)official website (P856)https://wiki.archlinux.org/. However, I'd imagine "official wiki URL" could be used in the rare case that there's a wiki about the wiki. Lewis Hulbert (talk) 17:16, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
